Twenty km from Vathy in the north of the island is the pictureque seaside village of Frikes. The settlement was founded after the 16th century when residents moved from the hilltop village of Exoghi when the danger of pirates had passed.
Today during the summer months Frikes is a busy little tourist spot attracting holidaymakers with its seaside taverns and cafes. This little port hosts local fishing boats and yachts and in the summer season ferry services operate between Frikes, Kefalonia and Lefkada.
